We are here in Ontario remembering how much we loved attending the Fall
Fest in 2018, and have been excited to see there would be virtual
festivities this year! Aha, thanks! I didn't think to try watching Glenda again. So excited to follow along with the festival from here in small-town Ontario! My husband and I attended in 2018 and it's one of our fondest memories. Thanks to all for making this happen virtually. Elizabeth d'Anjou ON
Glenda I tried so hard to take in last night's festivities but no luck. Could not gain access. However, today I joined you on the walk to Spring Beach and it was wonderful! I have to admit I saw many spots for harvesting spruce roots and for picnics and for bird watching and the list goes on.
I really learned so much about Cow Head and the people who first called it home.
Love this event! Eileen Murphy Corner Brook
I have just watched "Friday Afternoon Adventure" with Glenda, followed by "Having a Yarn" and paused at "A recitation" with Dave Paddon. Why pause? Because this is so enjoyable that I want to spread it out over several days and really savour it! I hope that the posts will be up for a while? Honestly, this is so informative! The history of Cow Head as related by Glenda with the musical story storytelling interludes are fascinating and entertaining. I had no idea that lobster had once been used as fertilizer? And the archeological digs, crowberry tea, tuckamore trees....honestly this should be on CBC! Or maybe not because everyone would want to head there :-)Thanks so much for sharing this treasure!
Pauline p.s. I will be sharing this with others
Well, I have just had the most wonderful tour of Cow Head with the guide Glenda Reid Bavis, the singer Stephanie Payne, and tin whistle player and singer Daniel Payne. What a magnificent red beard. And what magnificent singing from the two of them; wonderful songs, wonderful variants. Daniel's singing of Bungle Rye is a version quite similar to the one I recorded off the great singer from Ontario, Tom Brandon, in early 1968 in Peterboro. It was the least 'filthy' of several of his sea songs and logging songs. Wonderful man and a great storyteller. Stephanie's version of the Rattlin' Bog is just about as interesting a variant as I've ever heard – and there are several of them as you know. Two of our grandchildren, daughters of our son Brian, in Inverness, sing that song.
It's great to see the young crowd coming up with such genuine material. If it is not too much trouble, I'd love to find out from each of them where they got those variants of those two songs. They have great singing voices.
I look forward to a bit more viewing tomorrow and maybe even get to see you and Jim – I'd like that. Thanks for bringing it to my attention and maybe I'll see Anita as well. Aidan - Ireland
I just finished watching that show - it was true joy to take in. Great music and song, stories and connection and incredible vistas and backdrops. Well done and thanks. Keep 'er goin! Dean Williams
Congratulations to you both, and Stephanie and all of the others involved on a great festival. I just finished watching our segments and this mornings offerings. A great weekend of videos and undiscovered beauty by many. My family in the States thoroughly enjoyed the whole event. All the best, Dan MacDonald - Cape Breton Music Scene
Thank you Fergus, for the wonderful musical and cultural experience we had tonight watching this. While watching the videos made me brutally homesick, it was so great to ‘feel’ the music. Thank you!!! I particularly loved seeing Shirley Montague - I’m a long time fan. Hope all is well with you!!
Vonnie Barron - Toronto
Watched all 16 segments...thoroughly enjoyed. Beautiful scenery indeed! That's real archival material for MUN's Folklore dept., too!

Enjoyed this Fergie. Keep em coming!
There may be something in the remote locations - as you say, where we will never get to go - and engaging with the real locals.
It may be monetizable! ((Real word?!) Brookes Diamond -agency and artist promoter -Halifax
Todd and I sat down last night and watched the many different videos on you tube and we really enjoyed it. It took us back home for just a little while, since we cant go home right now. Thank you to all the people that were involved. It was fantastic
